What is actually in season on Long Island right now?

A rough month-by-month cheat sheet for buying and planting locally: • June: strawberries, peas, lettuce, early squash • July: blueberries, corn, cucumbers, tomatoes starting • August: tomatoes, peaches, peppers, eggplant, melons • September: apples, potatoes, winter squash, grapes • October: pumpkins, brussels sprouts, cider, late greens • Winter: storage crops, greenhouse greens, eggs, honey, baked goods Use this when you are browsing the marketplace — if something is way out of season, it probably traveled a long way. What are you harvesting this week?
