Selling at a farm stand on Long Island: the basics
Getting asked this a lot, so here is what we have learned running a stand. • Honor-system boxes still work out here, but bolt the cash box down and check it often. • Price in whole dollars. Nobody wants to make change at 7am. • Signs matter more than product. A readable roadside sign doubled our traffic. • Eggs need a clean carton, your name, and refrigeration if you are not selling same-day. Check current NY State rules before you scale up. • Post your hours where people look. Adding your stand and listings here means neighbors can find you on the map. Stand owners — what would you tell someone starting this spring?
